Lennox mini-split installation in Austin typically runs $3,500 to $7,500 installed, depending on the number of indoor heads and the difficulty of the line-set run. We stock common Lennox-compatible mounting hardware, line sets, and condensate pumps on our trucks, so most single-zone installs are completed in one day. The call usually starts the same way: a homeowner calls us because a DIY install went sideways, or an older unit has failed and they want to know if a Lennox mini-split can be dropped onto the existing pad without redoing the whole home.
Which Lennox Models This Applies To
Lennox makes several mini-split families, and the installation requirements are not identical across them. The MLA and MWMA series (single-zone and multi-zone) are the most common we see in Austin homes. The newer MPB and MPA series, sold through Lennox dealers, use a different flare fitting spec on the line set than older MLA units. If you have an older Lennox mini-split from the early 2010s, the indoor evaporator coil dimensions differ from current production, and the wall bracket from the old unit will not fit the new one without new mounting holes. That is the single most common compatibility gotcha we fix for Austin homeowners who bought a replacement head online.
Your Lennox model number is printed on a data plate on the right side of the outdoor condensing unit. If you read it to us over the phone, we can tell you before we roll a truck whether the installation bracket, line set size, and electrical whip we carry will match. Some Lennox parts, like the communicating thermostat brains inside the MPB series, are OEM-only and we source them directly through Lennox supply channels. For bracket kits, line sets, and condensate pumps, we use quality aftermarket equivalents that meet the same pressure and temperature ratings, and we tell you which is which on the written estimate.

Signs Your Lennox Mini-Split Installation Is Failing
- Water dripping from the indoor head or staining the wall below it. This is almost always a clogged condensate line or a failed condensate pump. In Austin, the real culprit is often algae growing in the drain pan, which is why we flush the drain during installation and recommend doing it at every tune-up.
- Ice on the evaporator coil or the line set. That means refrigerant is low or airflow is restricted. A mini-split that is low on charge is not a simple top-off; it means there is a leak that needs to be found and fixed before recharging.
- The outdoor unit runs constantly but the room never cools to the set point. In August in Austin, a properly sized mini-split should cycle, not run continuously. This often points to an undersized install or a failing compressor. Brandon, our lead installer, sees this most when a homeowner added patio enclosures or a new sunroom to the system without recalculating the load.
- A grinding or rattling noise from the indoor blower wheel. The blower wheel bearings wear out, and when they do, the plastic wheel can wobble against the housing. Left alone, it eventually stops spinning entirely.
- Frequent breaker trips or a burning smell near the outdoor unit. This is an electrical issue, not a nuisance. A compressor pulling high amps or a failing capacitor can trip a breaker, and the fix needs to happen before the compressor is damaged beyond repair.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For an Austin Lennox mini-split installation, expect a written price that breaks down the indoor head, the outdoor condenser, the line set, the electrical whip, the mounting bracket, and the labor. Single-zone installs on a standard 8-foot exterior wall fall on the lower end of that $3,500 to $7,500 range. Two-zone or three-zone systems, or installs that require a long line-set run through an attic or a crawl space, land on the higher end. Some Austin homes in older neighborhoods like Hyde Park have wall construction that makes the refrigerant line run more complex, and that complexity shows up honestly on the estimate before we start.
Every job starts with a written price. You see the number before we touch anything, and the number does not change unless you ask us to do something outside the scope of that estimate. The installation includes a written guarantee. If something we installed fails within the guarantee period, we return at no charge under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. No argument. No second invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
I am going to be direct with you, because you deserve a straight answer. Installing a Lennox mini-split involves refrigerant, line sets under pressure, and enough electrical work to require a permit in Austin. If the system ships pre-charged, you still need to pull a vacuum on the line set before opening the service valves. Get that wrong and you have moisture in the system, which turns into acid and eats the compressor from the inside out. That is a $1,000-plus mistake that would have been avoided by a trained technician with a vacuum pump and a micron gauge.
What you can check safely: confirm the breaker is the correct amperage for your Lennox model, make sure the outdoor unit is clear of leaves and debris, and verify the line set has no obvious kinks or oil stains. Oil at a flare fitting means refrigerant is escaping. If you see that, call us at (361) 326-1553. We will name the problem, name the price, and then we fix it, no surprises after the fact.
FAQs
A correctly installed and maintained Lennox mini-split should last 12 to 15 years in Austin. Central Texas heat pushes systems hard from May through October, and units that are not cleaned or serviced on schedule can fail several years earlier than that. Regular maintenance, including a proper coil cleaning and drain flush, is the single biggest factor in getting the full lifespan out of a Lennox mini-split here. Call (361) 326-1553 and we’ll tell you what your system needs, not what our schedule would like it to need.
Sometimes, yes. A bad capacitor, a clogged drain, a failed blower motor, or a leaking flare fitting is usually repairable for $150 to $650. The decision point is when the compressor has failed or the system is over 10 years old and needs a refrigerant recharge due to a leak. At that point, the repair cost pushes toward half the price of a new system, and the smart money is usually on replacement. We will show you the numbers for both options and let you decide.
A single-zone installation takes one full day, typically 6 to 8 hours from arrival to final startup and testing. Multi-zone installs with two or three indoor heads take two days, sometimes a little longer if the line-set routing is complicated. We schedule the second day before we leave on the first, so you are never left with a half-finished system and no idea when we are coming back.
Yes. We carry Lennox-compatible mounting brackets, standard 3/8-inch and 5/8-inch line sets, condensate pumps, electrical whips, and disconnect boxes on our trucks. OEM Lennox-specific parts, like the communicating control boards or proprietary thermistors, are ordered through Lennox supply channels and typically take 2 to 3 business days in Austin. We also service Carrier and Trane equipment, and can source parts for those brands with the same written-price guarantee.
